$1.8 billion Powerball prize goes to 1 winner for Christmas Eve drawing

(CNN) – One lottery player in Arkansas got the Christmas gift of a lifetime.

A single ticket sold in the state matched every number in Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing, winning a jackpot worth $1.8 billion.

Last-minute ticket sales made it the second-largest U.S. lottery jackpot ever.

If the winner chooses the lump sum, they’ll walk away with nearly $835 million.

Powerball says multiple jackpots have been won either on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, but none of them have ever reached $1 billion until now.

The Powerball jackpot resets to $20 million for Saturday’s drawing.
