French leader Macron loses his mayoral candidate in Paris
PARIS (AP) — The former government spokesman for French leader Emmanuel Macron has pulled out of the race to become mayor of Paris, dealing a blow to his former boss. Benjamin Griveaux blamed “vile attacks” on the internet and social media for his withdrawal from the municipal elections next month. French media reported leaks onto the internet of compromising sexual images. Paris is the most coveted of France’s municipalities and a political fiefdom that has been used in the past, notably by former French President Jacques Chirac, as a springboard for higher office.
