LONDON (AP) — A 22-year-old woman who falsely claimed she was groomed by an Asian gang, drugged, raped and forced to work as a prostitute has been jailed for more than eight years in a case that fueled racial tensions in Britain. Eleanor Williams was sentenced Tuesday for convictions for acts tending and intended to pervert the course of justice. Williams said in a widely shared May 2020 Facebook post that she was beaten, abused and trafficked by Asian men. The post inspired widespread anger, fear and acts of vandalism in her town of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. Three of the accused men said they tried to kill themselves.
