FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A former Florida sheriff’s deputy charged with failing to confront the Parkland school shooter says he is eager for his trial to begin. Fired Broward County deputy Scot Peterson told reporters on Monday that he believes the trial will show he did everything he could during the 2018 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas. A gunman murdered 17 during his six-minute attack inside a three-story classroom building. The 60-year-old Peterson is charged with failing to confront the gunman, allowing him to shoot 10 people on the third floor. Those shots were fired more than a minute after Peterson arrived. The trial starts May 31.
