As cases surge, Beshear defends new COVID-19 restrictions

LOUISVILLE, Ky (AP) — Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has announced 2,135 new confirmed coronavirus cases, the state’s highest daily number since the pandemic again. The state has also reported five virus-related deaths, raising the death toll to 1,792. Kentucky’s test positivity rate is 8.97%, down slightly from last week. Beshear says that Kentucky’s healthcare system is at risk from the rising pressures of new hospitalizations if conditions do not improve, and continues to defend new mandates issued last week to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Dr. Steven Stack, Kentucky’s public health commissioner, urges Kentuckians to refrain from traveling for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, calling multiple-household gatherings “a sure recipe for disaster.”
