2 lawmakers vie to replace Kentucky’s only Dem in Congress

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The race to replace retiring Democrat John Yarmuth in Kentucky’s 3rd Congressional District pits state Sen. Morgan McGarvey against state Rep. Attica Scott in the Democratic primary for what has been the lone seat held by Democrats in Kentucky in recent years. Both McGarvey and Scott share many of Yarmuth’s progressive stances, but they come from different backgrounds. Scott, a Black woman, is a community organizer and former Louisville metro councilwoman. McGarvey, a white male attorney, is a top-ranking Democrat in the Republican-dominated Kentucky Senate. The winner will face a Republican challenger for a seat long held by Democrats.
