Hot Air Balloon Event for Morgantown Care & Rehab Elders

Morgantown Care & Rehabilitation Center, one of 72 skilled nursing communities operated by Louisville, Ky.-based Signature HealthCARE, is working closely with the elders in their home to make their dreams come true. Recently, they had an Elder share that she would like to go up in a hot air balloon, and the team worked together with the support of several community sponsors to give their elders this opportunity.

Morgantown's Quality of Life department organized the first Hot Air Balloon rides for their elders, a day that they called “Up, Up, and Away”. About 10 of the home's elder's went up for a
tethered hot air balloon ride; this gave them the opportunity to see beautiful Morgantown in a way they could have only imagined.

According to one Elder, Ms. Myrtle Givens, “Who would have thought I would be riding in a hot air balloon. A year ago I was on my death bed and now I just went 50 feet in the air. I would
not have missed this for the world.”

Up, Up and Away was held on Sept. 28th, at 4:00pm, at the Charles Black City Park in Morgantown. The day included a picnic at the park free for the community as well as live music
and entertainment. Nearly 250 people from the Morgantown community attended the event.

“I think it's awesome that they are making dreams come true. It's beautiful and I teared up!”
said Amy Deweese, Community Member. “What an amazing event! I was touched by the outpouring of support from our stakeholders and community. It was truly a blessing for me personally to see the excitement on each Elders face as they went up in the balloon. I'm not sure how we can top this event, but we're sure going to try.” said Logan Midkiff, Administrator at Morgantown Care & Rehab.
