Former WKU coach wins “Best Coach” award at annual NBA Awards ceremony

One of our very own Hilltoppers took home a big award last night, at the annual NBA awards ceremony.

Former Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey won the award for best coach in the NBA last season. Casey, a native of Morganfield, Kentucky, graduated from Union County High School, and also played college basketball in the 70’s at the University of Kentucky.

In addition, Casey was an assistant coach for the Hilltoppers from 1980 to 1985. He led the raptors to a team-record 59 wins this past season. However, since then, he has been fired by the raptors, after being ousted by the Cavaliers in the playoffs for the third consecutive year.

Last month, he was hired as the head coach of the Detroit Pistons.
