Deputies arrest men on accusations of stealing hemp mistaken for pot

Just before 5 a-m Wednesday, Logan County deputies responded to Coleman farms in reference to a theft in progress.

The owner was able to give a description of the vehicle that left the scene, leading deputies to find 31-year-old Lee Anthony and 22-year-old Matthew Gilbert. According to deputies, three hemp plants were visible from the back seat and several others were located on the side of the road near the car.

Deputies say Gilbert stated he didn’t know the hemp plants weren’t marijuana.

The report says digital scales were also located inside the vehicle.

Both men were lodged in the Logan County detention center on a handful of charges including trafficking in industrial hemp and 3rd-degree criminal mischief.
