City Commissioners approve budget

City Commissioners in Bowling Green have approved the 2018-2019 budget.

The commission voted unanimously on the $125 million budget during Tuesday’s meeting. This is the 11th year where taxpayers will not see any sort of increase.

Nearly $30 million of the budget will be used for capital improvement projects, including $3 million for a new fire station on Lovers Lane.

“Anytime we get anything new, we’re just like kids at Christmas. You’re excited with something you’re getting,” said Marlee Boenig, with the Bowling Green Fire Department. “People want to be at a new station because it’s newer. It’s a home for firefighters when they’re not at home and they spend a lot of time there. We want it to be a nice facility for them.”

If all goes to plan, the fire department hopes to open the building in April 2020.
