WKU Women's Golf: Four Lady Tops earn WGCA All-American Scholar honors

Posted: Updated:

Four members of the WKU Lady Topper Golf team were honored for their academic achievement Tuesday as Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars.

WKU’s Georgina Blackman, Megan Clarke, Mary Joiner and Katie Story were all honored by the WGCA, which requires that honorees meet a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and compete in at least 50 percent of the school’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds.

Blackman, an outgoing senior from Essex, England, graduated this spring with a 3.52 overall GPA while majoring in corporate and organizational communication and a minor in sales.

She became the first Lady Topper to ever receive all-conference honors in each of her four seasons on The Hill. In addition to her second-team honor this season and her first-team selection last year, Blackman was also named to the All-C-USA Third Team as a sophomore and freshman.

Clarke, a rising sophomore from Heckmondwike, England, finished her freshman season with a 3.90 GPA while seeking a major in psychology.

Clarke competed in all 11 events for WKU in her debut season and recorded her best finish with a tie for 11th at the Conference USA Championships.

Joiner, a rising junior from Franklin, Ky., boasts a 3.88 GPA while majoring in finance. She was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team this season and is also a member of WKU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Joiner competed in all 11 events for the Lady Toppers as a sophomore and led the team with a stroke average of 73.9, the best single-season average in program history. She was named to the All-Conference USA First Team and was picked as C-USA Golfer of the Week three times in a five-week span in the spring. Her season included two individual victories, and she now has a program-record four individual wins in just two college seasons.

Story, an outgoing senior from Dickson, Tenn., graduated this spring with a 3.56 GPA while majoring in exercise science.

She competed in all 11 tournaments for the Lady Toppers as a senior, recording six top-20 showings and two top-five performances.
