Local students shook the hands of their heroes on 9/11’s 16th anniversary Monday—thanking them for their courageous service through song, gifts, and a meal.
Students aged 5 to 12 from Anchored Christian School sang hymns for the local first responders while they ate a meal prepared by Forest Park Baptist Church.
The ceremony lasts nearly two hours with the men and women free to come and go as they please.
Students then handed out homemade gift bags to them on their way out the door.
5th and 6th grade teacher, Sandy Kubasch, say’s this is their 16th year honoring the men and women, and each year it’s just as special,
“We want them to always remember. I’m afraid much of our nation has forgotten. It’s been sixteen years and so much is going on in the world, but it was a horrific day, but yes it was a day when American shined as well. We are honored to teach our kids to be servants to those who serve us.”
