In light of the recent natural disasters, the local American Red Cross is holding a volunteer orientation on Monday.
The South Central Kentucky chapter is urging those interested in becoming disaster volunteers to come out, saying, as the natural disaster devastation increases, the need for volunteers does as well.
The orientation will be held in the Community Room from 2-6 p.m. at Bowling Green Municipal Utilities at 801 Center Street in Bowling Green.
All training is free, but advance registration is required by calling (270) 781-7377.
Jennifer Capps, SCKY Executive Director of the American Red Cross urges everyone to show up and just listen because they can never have too many volunteers,
"There's opportunities for everyone--there's opportunities to respond to single-family fires. You know, maybe you sign up and say "I'm available this weekend if there's a fire, call me and I'll respond or call me in the middle of the night and I'll go assist a family who's lost everything. I can't commit to two weeks, but I can commit to the middle of the night." So, train now--it may not be that you go next week, it may not be that you can, but then you're trained for next year."
Attendees are also encouraged to begin the volunteer process by completing an application at redcross.org/volunteer.
