NCM Offering Helping Hand to Hurricane Irma Victims

Posted: Updated:

The National Corvette Museum is reaching out a helping hand to those seeking refuge from Hurricane Irma--offering their assistance finding available hotels and even making their parking lot available for stay.

Katie Ellison, National Corvette Museum Spokesperson says, "Corvette people are like family to us, so why not communicate to them that Bowling Green has hotel rooms, our surrounding areas have hotel rooms. As well as, opening up our parking lot after hours if people need to drop trailers, cars, park their RV there--you know, anything we can do to help them find a place to go, we wanted to step in and do that."

One Fort Myers man, Kenneth Herald, and his wife took a pit stop while evacuating to Indianapolis to be with family. Unknowingly, stopping at the museum that's welcoming evacuees with open arms.

"We had to leave all our personal artifacts," Herald says, "our cameras, pictures, everything that you would like to take. It really works on your mind because I can tell you where I live now--I can't tell you Monday because I don't know. It's that kind of emotion. You just don't know whats going to happen."

The National Corvette Museum is not the only local business offering refuge for Hurricane Evacuees either.

If your ride is a little less practical, don't worry--the Bowling Green Warren County Regional Airport still has your back, with plenty of blacktop space available.

Airport Manager Rob Barnett says, "Southern Hospitality is alive and well in Bowling Green, Kentucky. You know, parking an airplane out on a ramp out there or putting an airplane in a hanger temporarily or tying an airplane down on a certain location on the aircraft parking apron, we would just consider that hospitality and hope that those folks come into our community and eat at those restaurants and stay at those hotels and enjoy Bowling Green for at least 4-5 days until the hurricane passes."

With the Holley LS Fest going on this weekend, the hotels are limited, but you can call the Bowling Green Area Convention and Visitors Bureau at (800) 326-7465 for a complete list of availability.
