Senator Rand Paul toured a commercial hemp farm in Murray, Kentucky on Thursday.
Here in the Bluegrass State, you can grow industrial hemp under experimental conditions. Joe Kelly farms more than 700 acres of industrial hemp. He explains the crop has the potential to bring in more revenue than soybeans or corn. It can be used to feed livestock... and humans can eat the seeds as a soy replacement.
Kelly explained to the Senator - the FDA doesn't allow him to sell this crop as food. You can find hemp seeds in some stores but it's imported from Canada. Paul hopes to get Kentucky-made industrial hemp products on the shelves soon.
