Betty Gilbert said she walked outside Monday night and could hear some heavy breathing coming from the woods. Later on, she decided to check what was outside again and noticed her garbage can was tipped over.
She said that a 300 or 400 bear was munching on her garbage. Gilbert stayed on the porch for hours as the bear traveled back and forth from the woods to the garbage, taking one bag at a time.
Fish and Wildlife arrived later that night, but the bear had retreated back into the woods. Gilbert said she hasn't seen the bear since but is keeping a close eye around her car and their home.
