Nashville Mayor Returns to Work After Death of Son

Posted: Updated:

Nashville's mayor returned to work Monday, nine days after losing her son to a drug overdose.

Mayor Megan Barry spoke to the media for the first time since her son Max's death.

She thanked the community for the outpouring of love, support, and words of kindness from longtime friends and complete strangers alike. She says she has to get used to her 'new normal.', but the loss of her son will be something she will never fully get over."

Mayor Barry says she doesn't want Max's overdose to define his life, but she does see the need to have a frank conversation about how he died.
