Our region is seeing an increased amount of pests this summer. We've got some tips from the professionals to keep you from being bitten and bugged.
According to a report by the National Pest Management Association, our region is getting hit hard by mosquitoes this season and it may be the worst year on record for ticks.
Gary Wheeldon, owner of a local pest management--The Wheeldon Company LLC., says there is no fix-all for getting rid of them completely, but tips to keep mosquitoes away is keeping foliage around the house to a minimum, making sure there are no open water sources, and if that doesn't work then they offer sprays to defer them away from homes.
Wheeldon say's the best option for preventing ticks is keeping the grass cut short and with any pests, being aware and swift in removal, because you never know what they may carry.
"Mosquito's is definitely up because of the rain season and they'll continue to get worse because of the warm weather and all the rain, and people need to be concerned about that with all the diseases that they carry. Just keep everything kind of neat and cleaned up around the house, that type of thing will generally help."
He says don't hesitate to call an exterminator if you notice an increase in any pests, as it doesn't take long for them to multiply.
